Good income/wage for a mechanic? was created by SteveO
Hi!
I recently applied to become a mechanic at a garage local to me. They said they would pay me £27,000 after tax according to his calculator: http://after-tax.co.uk/ . Is this a good wage? I can't find a lot online about it. I'm based around Peterborough if it helps. Thanks in advance

Hey Steve! £27,000 after tax is around £2,250 a month. For Peterborough, this is fairly decent but not high. The average salary for a mechanic in the UK ranges from £20,000 to £30,000,

depending on experience and location. Peterborough's cost of living is lower than in places like London, so this wage could cover basics comfortably. If you're just starting or have less experience, this might be a good starting point, but if you have a lot of experience, you might want to negotiate for more.
